TECHNOLOGICAL CHALLENGES

SOLAR AIRSHIP ONE is a 151-meter-long rigid airship with a helium expansion volume of 53,000 m3. Its envelope is covered with 4,800 m2 of solar film. Electrical generation comes from 2 sources: the sun and hydrogen.  The day with solar collectors, the night with fuel cells.

RIGID STRUCTURE AND DOUBLE ENCLOSURE

The device has a double envelope allowing the stabilization of the external pressures exerted and the regulation of internal temperatures. This technological innovation allows the use of the airship in all weather conditions (automatic de-icing system) and therefore ensures greater profitability.

100% ELECTRIC MOTORIZATION

The solar film covering the entire upper part of the aircraft allow for direct and constant electrical power during the day. The surplus electricity is stored in fuel cells that produce hydrogen via water electrolysis.

STEERING BY ANTICIPATION

In order to avoid the moments of inertia associated with the use of helium, the airship is made up of 15 gas envelopes, each of which is individually managed, thus allowing for instantaneous response and anticipation of meteorological events.

LOGISTICAL INDEPENDENCE

No heavy infrastructure on the ground is required to secure the airship, making it completely autonomous. For regular stops, a simple rotating platform on a sheet of water is sufficient.

AUTONOMOUS BALLASTING

Still with the aim of being infrastructure independent, and for specific applications, 2 ballasting systems are available. A classic water-based system, and a second compressed-air-based system, making the unit totally autonomous.

SOLUTIONS FOR THE FUTURE

The objective of SOLAR AIRSHIP ONE is to achieve this feat only thanks to renewable energy. However, this ecological airship is a demonstrator which has for vocation to be marketed one day, in versions intended for the general public, industrialists because EURO AIRSHIP is persuaded that solutions for a greener aviation exist.
